After A Long Break Here…

Dear Whomever May Read This blog,

Sorry for the lack of posts since I was added onto this blog, but I definitely wanted to get one in tonight due to the momentous occasion today. Phillies baseball has officially been played! This afternoon, the Philadelphia Phillies faced off against the New York Yankees in exhibition down in Florida. After an overlong introduction in the Yankees spring training home-field, the game was underway. To start, much of the lineup was off from what you will see come opening day as players like Wilson Valdez and Pete Orr filled in for regulars like Chase Utley and Jimmy Rollins. Overall, Hamels looked good in his first outing, though honestly, two inning is never enough to truly say much. Other notable pitchers in the game were Vance Worley who started a few games last season and is a relatively young prospect for the Phillies baseball club and Mike Zagurski who tossed an inning striking out one. Going ahead early in the top of the second, the Phillies eventually lost their 1-0 lead after backup catcher Francisco Cervelli drove in the Yankees’ first run with an RBI double into the left field corner in the second inning, knocking home Robinson Cano, who had reached on an error. From this point, after the second inning, the game went back and forth with the Phils scoring two runs in the top of the fifth taking a 3-1 lead but only to have that lead knocked back to 3-2 after the bottom of the fifth. In the seventh inning the Yankees finally took their first lead off of a two-run homer by Jorge Vasquez making it 4 to 3. No worries though because in the eight inning, off of Eric Wordekemper, Dane Sardinha hit a two out, two run single to regain the lead.

Final Score: 5-4 Phillies

Final Thoughts: Overall, being the first of many exhibition games in the 2011-2012 spring training season, this was an entertaining way to kick things off. This step was just one of the many in the process of getting back and ready for opening day and the rest of this exciting season. Again, I apologize for the lack of posts, but hopefully this helped some of you that were wondering how the game ended up going this afternoon. Stay tuned, I promise to try and stay steady here. Have a good one…
